As a graduate in supply chain management you would plan, monitor and deal with goods from first stage, i.e, raw material to a finished product. You will mainly deal with movement of goods. You will engage in activities to improve customer value and improve market value of the company.
As graduates in supply chain management, they will be engaged in full life cycle of a product, from designing to disposal.They will analyse and identify the needs of the customers and plan strategies to meet those demands. They also put forward ways to reduce the cost and increase the profit.
To pursue an undergraduate course in supply chain management you can take any stream at +2 level, but taking commerce which relates to the distribution aspects of business, may give you a better insight into the subject you are taking up.
You can take up a BBA in Supply Chain Management which is a three year course. You may also take a bachelor’s in any discipline including BTech/BE which will make you eligible to take up postgraduate studies in Supply Chain Management. Individuals with an undergraduate degree can qualify for entry level employment in various fields, such as transportation, warehouse distribution and manufacturing.
Distance education diploma courses in Supply Chain Management of duration 1 to 1½ years is offered by some institutions ( NMIMS, Symbiosis) in India. This can be taken up after graduation in any discipline.
2 year Post graduate programs or MBA with specialisation in Supply Chain Management is available in many reputed institutes of management in India. Universities abroad also offer MBA/ MSc degree programs in Supply Chain Management. These programs are usually of 1 to 2 years duration.
Doctoral programs in Business Administration in Supply Chain Management can be taken up in universities abroad which prepare students to pursue an academic career or to become a professional researcher. Universities in India ( eg: Delhi University) also offer PhD programs in Supply Chain Management.
