According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for engineers is promising. The face of engineering is rapidly changing, with fastest growing engineering job specialties in the the 21st century being Computer science engineering, Biomedical engineering, Computer hardware engineering and Environmental engineering.
In the coming decade, however it is expected that there will be increased employment of engineers in research and development and in consulting services industries. Engineers will be needed to improve and update product designs, help increase productivity and employ new technologies leading toward more sustainable practices and products.
With the demand for better medical devices and equipment increasing, a 7 percent employment growth rate is predicted for biomedical engineers through 2026. Likewise Civil engineers and Environmental engineers are also likely to have a greater employment growth rate as sustainability is fast becoming a key issue globally. Other core engineering disciplines like Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics engineering etc. will also continue to have increased global demand.
Education and training roles are usually essential positions needed in society and offer a stable work life. Engineers who possess the necessary skills, have the required qualifications and have the passion to change and influence other people's life can take up this profession.
Engineering and entrepreneurship at first seems like very different paths without natural crossovers, but looking closely, engineering and entrepreneurship share many of the same skills. Being a competent engineer requires one to solve complex problems and navigate around difficult situations when they arise, a useful skill for any entrepreneur.
This is one of the most sought out careers in India. Engineers have opportunities in a lot of government departments and PSUs. And they also have opportunities in the armed forces.
Engineering graduates do get opportunities in the field of finance and banking where the skills an engineering degree would provide are in much demand. In general, graduates today are tech-savvy, multi-taskers and are self-driven, however, they need to prepare themselves to make career choices and get ready with employable skills that the finance and banking sector is looking for.
Social services, also called welfare service or social work, includes the numerous publicly or privately provided services intended to aid disadvantaged, distressed, or vulnerable persons or groups. Engineers can contribute more to the society and people in many ways. This would be a career that would help them apply their knowledge and work without stress and pressures, and get the happiness of helping others.
