As an aerospace engineer, you will get to apply cutting edge technology to develop flight systems for a large variety of purposes like commutation of passengers and freight, space travel and defence mechanisms.
An aerospace engineer works in the designing, building and prototype testing of commercial aircraft, military helicopters, airplanes and missiles, spacecrafts, launch vehicles, satellites and other aerospace products. Someone looking to build a career in the aerospace sector in India will need at least a master’s degree owing to the lack of opportunities in the sector and its specialised nature. So it’s better to take a dual degree at the UG level which will help you save a year.
After completing the UG degree, you can either go for an M.Tech (or M.S. in foreign universities and certain Indian universities) and then to the doctoral level. If your profile (including projects, research papers, and internships) is excellent, you might get a direct entry into Ph.D. as well.
It should be noted that a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering (and civil or electrical engineering in special cases) might suffice as a qualification to get admission into PG level aerospace courses.
