Different Career Options in Civil Service

IAS officers serve both in the Central and State Governments and almost all the departments and ministries are headed by them.The members of Indian administrative services hold positions such as District Collector, District Magistrate and can go on to become secretaries in various ministries.
The members of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) will represent the country in other countries and in International bodies like United Nations. They will be managing and developing diplomatic contacts with their nations.\
These individuals serve various financial management services for the Department of Telecommunication and the Department of Posts.
IAAS officers function under the Comptroller and Auditor General of India in audit managerial capacity. They serve as the top management of audit department and work closely with the Union and State government departments for efficient audit.
IRS officers manage the collection of excise and customs taxes.they deal with the formulation of policy concerning levy and collection of Customs & Central Excise duties and Service Tax.
Defense accounts officers will be responsible for accounting functions of the defence department during various defence acquisitions, licensing, procurement, service warranties of weapons platforms.
IRS officers work under the Department of Revenue in the Union Ministry of Finance. Their function is concerned withollection and management of the various direct and indirect taxes, accruing the same to the Union Government.
IOFS officers work under the Ministry of Defence to manage and they are responsible for the management of the Indian Ordnance Factories, provide the defence production capabilities of India.
Indian postal service is under the department of posts and a part of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology under the Government of India. They are concerned with developing innovative national schemes for communications especially postal communication.
ICAS fall under the Ministry of Finance. ICAS officers are responsible for payment services, supports the tax collection system, performs government wide accounting, financial reporting functions, preparation of budget estimates and carries out Internal Audit in civil ministries of the Union Government.
IRTS officers primarily manage the passenger and cargo traffic of Indian Railways.
IRAS officers manage and maintain the accounts and finances of Indian Railways.
IRPS officers primary responsibility is to manage the Human Resources of the Indian Railways. They handle all the issues related to personnel selection, training, pay, etc
These officers manage the Railway Police Force, which is entrusted with managing the security of equipment and customers of the railways.responsible for the security of the railway tracks, personnel and equipment
IDES officers are appointed as Chief Executive Officers in cantonments around the country.
IIS service is controlled by the Ministry of Defence (Directorate of Public Relations). IIS officers will handle the organized media and public relations functions for the government
These individuals will deal with International trade and commerce.
They will be responsible for administrative functions of the Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) Headquarters and other inter-service bodies under the defence ministry.
These officers will manage administrative roles in union territories including Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
Selected officers will manage the administrative roles in centrally administered Pondicherry area.
Selected officers will be policing in the area of Pondicherry.
