The corporate lawyer may deal with disputes which are national or international level based on the nature of companies.

What are the Job roles in Corporate law?

Legal advisor provides legal advice related to company’s jurisprudence including contract disputes, compensation issues, harassment suits,corporate growth, mergers or other practices.
The Security advisor has to provide advice on legal matters when the company sells its security, or shares.
Corporate lawyers can work as workers legal welfare officers in companies, public sector and NGOs. They suppose to mitigate the issues related to labour’s rights,compensation etc.
Provide legal services to those who are facing legal issues related to business.
Judicial Clerks Work as a full time assistant to judges and perform a wide range of tasks including writing verdicts ,court opinions and conducting research
Professors in law can teach students in schools or universities

How to become a Corporate Lawyer

Step 1
Take any stream in 10+2

A Student with a minimum percentage of marks in any plus two stream are eligible for any law programs

Step 2
Take Integrated BA/BBA/BSc/BCom LLB

The common course offered at the UG level in law are 5 Year- Integrated bachelor's degree plus LLB. Depending on the stream in plus two you can do a corresponding degree+LLB as a single professional course. Corporate/commercial/Business law specialisation in UG level are available only in very few institutes.

Note : Any Bachelor's Degree and Take LLB

Someone looking to build a career in corporate law can either do an integrated BA/BBA/BCom/Bsc LLB or do a graduation in any degree and go for 3 year LLB. .Graduation in any stream in the minimum requirement for LLB admission

Step 3
Take LLM with corporate/Commercial/Business Law Specialisation

LLM is a one year masters program in law with multiple specialisations.. A candidate who holds an LLB degree is eligible for the same.Various specialisations like Corporate /Business/Commercial law are opted in masters to practice as a corporate lawyer.

Note : PG Diploma in Corporate/Commercial/Business Law

Law Graduates can do a PG diploma if he/she wishes to pursue a career in a specific field

Step 4
Take MPhil/ PhD

Aspirants with an LLM or equivalent degree with minimum marks are eligible for MPhil/Doctor degree in legal studies.

Analytical skills

a corporate lawyer must possess effective analytical and problem solving skills as they are supposed to.analyse the clients requirements and issues thus to effectively address it.

Communication skills

Strong interpersonal communication skills are required for corporate lawyers as they have to interact with people regularly. They should be able to express themselves clearly and they should also build relationships with people within and outside of the organization.

Writing skills

It is necessary for corporate lawyers to be proficient in writing as they need to draft legal documents such as contracts, briefs, and other.


Lawyers need to be creative when it comes to solving the problems. Relying on the methods and techniques that they have used in the past in order to solve issues would not be effective at many times. Also they need to be creative in meeting company's legal and business needs.

Negotiation skills

Corporate lawyers must also be a skilled negotiator by constantly being in the position of talking with all the parties to a transaction.
