As a dancer you will be using body movements, usually to the accompaniment of music, to express emotions and tell stories, inspiring and entertaining an audience.
Dancers may be working at choreographing dance sequences or giving dance performances at stage events or gatherings. They may also work in the entertainment industry creating solo or group dance sequences for cinema, music videos, TV shows and theatre. They may also be involved in teaching students in schools and colleges or training dance troupes for cultural performances.
There is no need of choosing a particular stream at plus two level for doing Bachelor’s degree in dance. You can go for any stream at plus two and learn dance in parallel.
Participating in Dance competitions at school level, performing in cultural events and attending dance workshops will improve your skills and talent. Certificates of your achievements in this field may help you to get preference in admission interviews of prominent institutions.
The common course offered at the UG level in this area is BA in any of the dance form(like BA Bharatanatyam, BA Kuchipudi etc.).The duration of the course will be 3 years.
After completing BA Dance in specialisation of choice you can either go for MA or MPA (Master of performing Arts) in respective dance form. The duration of the course will be 2 years.
After pursuing Master’s you can go for M Phil or PhD if your profile (including portfolio, certificates of achievement, and performance videos) and research proposal is excellent.
