Product Management

As a product manager you will be responsible for the development and improvement of products of a company. You will work to define the business strategy behind a product, as well as specify its functional requirements, whether it is a physical product or a virtual one such as software.

What do Product managers do ?

Product managers are responsible for guiding the success of a product and leading the cross-functional team that is responsible for improving it. The responsibilities may also include marketing, forecasting, and profit and loss assessment and providing the deep product expertise needed to lead the organization and make strategic product decisions.

How to become a Product Management?

Step 1
Take any stream at +2 level

Taking any stream at +2 will make you eligible to pursue an undergraduate degree. However taking commerce in +2 is recommended

Step 2
Take any Bachelor’s degree

You may take an undergraduate course in any discipline. Admission requirements may vary depending on the institutions and course. Taking a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce/ Management like B.Com or BBA will be of advantage.

Step 3
Take MBA with specialisation in Product Management

MBA/PGP programs of 2 year duration are available in many institutes in India and abroad.

Strategic thinking

A product manager needs to carefully set the quantifiable goals and establish strategies to reach it and tracks the goals and makes changes to the plan accordingly.

Interpersonal and communication skills

Product managers need to interact with and influence numerous groups ,including customers, sales personnel, marketing, finance, and engineering teams. Thus, they must be able to communicate their vision to everyone effectively.

Product managers use their analytical skills to do research and analyze the right data in order to make product decisions with profit in mind. Also they need to know how to use data to crunch numbers and create solutions for business strategy, product development, and pricing outlook.

Product manager will use their creativity in designing, managing and executing product visions and missions. It is also necessary for them to scan the market to learn about advancements in products and to initiate innovations to meet the current needs of the customers.
